S2S Naples team

Sound to Sense (S2S) is an interdisciplinary EU-funded Marie Curie Research Training Network (MC-RTN) involving engineers, computer scientists, psychologists, and linguistic phoneticians. The research is being done in 13 universities in 10 countries and involves 17 young researchers appointed at these universities, and even more senior scientists. For more informations about S2S please visit the official S2S site.

The S2S Naples team includes the following researchers:

Because Naples is the host institution of the research fellow in project number 7, the Naples researchers are mostly involved in this project, but not exclusively. The title of the S2S project 7 is "Integration of multiple units in computational models". The researchers working onthis project will try to incorporate long-term structures which represent speech dynamics and suprasegmental processes into existing recognizers which employ short-term representations.as well as attempting to develop an effective, statistical framework for ASR which is capable of exploiting the information available at multiple time scales. In order to do this, the researchers will build on existing work at Naples and Nijmegen into novel speech feature representations and ASR architectures.

Project no. 7 had to prepare as deliverable for the first S2S year an ASR software based on Factorial HMMs. By following this link you will be able to see a short description of the software and also to download the source files.

S2S Naples workshop

The third workshop organized by the S2S network was the one in Naples. It took place between 16-18 April 2008 and its theme was "Beyond Short Units". Click here to access the subjects discussed during the workshop as well as the notes of the speakers.
